Nick Tyrone spreads pro-business message at Kent policy conference

Our Research Director, Nick Tyrone, is currently travelling around the country, speaking to businesspeople and community leaders, to create a best practice report around how best to hire and train staff. This will feed into our accreditation scheme, to be launched in early 2026.

As part of his recent tour, Nick gave a speech at Kent Conservative conference last weekend to a room filled with many business leaders. It was held in Hollingbourne, near Leeds Castle, and featured 2024 leadership contenders James Cleverly and Robert Jenrick – in fact, Nick spoke right after James Cleverly.

As a non-partisan organisation, Nick laid out how our work stretches across political boundaries, focusing on how we think Liz Kendall’s “Get Britain Working” white paper has a lot of great ideas within it. The ambition within the white paper of getting as many of the 2.8 million people locked out of the jobs market due to long-terms sickness is admirable, as is creating new national jobs and careers service, focused on people’s skills and careers. 

Nick urged attendees to get involved with the Jobs Foundation, as business council members, donors or by having their business featured in our work. Our business council is now over 1,000 members strong, including some of the largest companies in Britain as well as one-man band SMEs. As an organisation that champions business as a force for good, Nick made the point that we should be a natural home for Conservatives, much as we are for pro-businesspeople in all parties. 

There were many questions from the audience after the speech around how to create a more pro-business environment in Britain, with Nick referencing elements of our Two Million Jobs foundational research report for answers. Nick received a standing ovation at the end, with many approaching him afterwards for further information on our organisation.
