The transition from welfare to work represents one of the most significant challenges in addressing poverty and economic inactivity. Businesses across the UK play a vital role in this transition, offering the possibility of employment, training opportunities, and support to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
There are currently over nine million adults in the UK economically inactive, with there being an urgent need for policies to help support more people back into work. The Government has an ambitious goal of getting two million more people into work, but this will require businesses to create over a million new jobs, with there being much less focus on how this will be done.
New research from the Jobs Foundation proposes a 100 per cent exemption for Employer NICs when businesses hire individuals from long-term unemployment or economic inactivity, with our analysis finding that this will have the impact of enabling businesses to create 100,000 new jobs.
